Kolkata, 01 August: LT GEN Praveen Bakshi today took over as the 25 General Officer Commanding-In-Chief (GOC-in-C) of the Eastern Army Command in Kolkata.

He succeeds Lt Gen MMS Rai, who relinquished the office on 31 July after being elevated as the Vice Chief of the Army Staff in New Delhi.

Prior to taking over as the Eastern Army Commander, Lt Gen Bakshi was the Chief of Staff in the Northern Command at Udhampur. On assuming the new office today, Lt Gen Bakshi paid homage to martyrs at the Vijay Smarak at Eastern Command headquarters Fort William in Kolkata.

Lt Gen Bakshi is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy and has rich operational and command experience.

Among the several important positions held by him include the Command of an Armoured Brigade in the Western Sector, a Division in the Deserts and a Corps in the Punjab and J&K plains sectors.
