Kolkata, 10 September: FORMER Trinamool minister Madan Mitra has been released from Alipur Central Correctional Home but for now he is lodging in a hotel at Elgin Road.

This is because while granting him bail in the multi-crore Saradha Scam yesterday, the Alipore court had imposed the condition that Mitra would have to stay within Bhowanipore, whereas his residence is located at Kalighat police station area.

Mitra’s lawyers had filed Rs 30 lakh bail bond and a local surety (mortgaging of an immovable property) to the court yesterday night itself, but the Alipore jail authorities released him around 06.45 am today morning. His family members received him at the jail gate.

On stepping out of the jail, Mitra, who has spent 21 months behind the bars, said that he wanted to spend some time in leisure. “I have finally got a leave. Want to take some rest now and spend time with my family,” the former minister said adding that he would cooperate with the CBI investigation into the Saradha Chitfund Scam.

After this, Mitra straightway checked into a fifth room of a hotel at Elgin Road that falls under Bhowanipore police station area. His lawyers would approach the Alipore court on Wednesday for partial modification of the order so that Mitra could return to his home at Kalighat police station area.
