Siliguri, 03 February: A group of Madhyamik examinees today went on the rampage at Mudipara Nagendra Nath High School at Belakoba in Jalpaiguri and also assaulted the teachers for stooping them from cheating in the exam.

The incident took place around 11.15 this morning, about half-an-hour before the start of Geography exam. The accused eight examinees are all students of Belakoba High School, whose exam venue is Nagendra Nath High School.

According to the assistant headmaster of the school, Babulal Das, the students were angry with the school authorities and the invigilators for stopping them from indulging in cheating during the English language exam yesterday.

Soon after the school gate was thrown open around 11.15 am today, the eight examinees went to a first floor exam hall and restored to indiscriminate vandalism. They started breaking desk-benches and chairs that were there in the exam hall and also vandalised a wash room.

Hearing the noise, assistant headmaster Das and another teacher Sandip Choudhury rushed to the first floor. It was then that some of the rowdy examinees pushed them from behind: Das sustained injury in his right leg, Choudhury was hurt in the hand and head.

The situation was brought under control after a police team deputed on exam duty rushed to the trouble scene. The school authorities have identified one of the examinees involved in the vandalism but no action has been initiated against him as yet. All the students, including the accused and the suspects, are now writing their Geography paper.

Nagendra Nath High School has a history of mass cheating during Madhyamik exam and every time, the examinees from Belakoba High School are found involved in this.
