Siliguri: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today pulled up tourism minister Goutam Deb for the delay in implementing the tourism projects at Tiger Hill in Darjeeling and Gazoldoba in Jalpaiguri district.

The matters came up during a review meeting chaired by the Chief Minister with the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) and the civic bodies of the Hills held at Kalimpong.

In the meeting, Banerjee expressed displeasure at the snail progress of various development and tourism projects in the Hills and its immediate neighbourhood in the plains.

Tourism minister Deb, who was present in the meeting, was asked by the Chief Minister as to why the construction of the tourist resort at Tiger Hill is taking longer than expected. The case is same as regards the Bhorer Alo tourism hub project coming up at Gazoldoba in Jalpaiguri.

“You have not been able to complete the construction of tourist resorts at Tiger Hill and Gazoldoba as yet. Sometimes you are saying the deadline is May, sometimes you are saying June, and sometimes you are saying it will be completed in October. It can’t go on like this. Is the tourism department a time pass for you,” she asked the minister.

Deb tried to explain that the work is on and will be completed over the next few months. But the explanation failed to satisfy the chief minister.

“You are sending me photographs of the interior works and claiming that the work is progressing fast. What about the works that have been lying stalled for months now? You must make your officers work and get the projects completed at the earliest,” she said snubbing the tourism minister.

The chief minister also asked GTA chairman Binay Tamang and the chairmen of the four civic bodies in the Hills to expedite the work on drinking water, sanitation, solid waste management, and road projects. “Implement these basic projects without any further delay. The rest I will take care of,” she said.
