Kolkata: CHIEF Minister Mamata Banerjee has broken her silence on the controversy over the ownership of Biswa Bangla logo and brand. She has threatened not to “spare those running a malicious campaign on the issue.”
Speaking at the state Assembly today afternoon, Banerjee said that she created Biswa Bangla logo in 2013 “in just one second while moving in a car.”
“Later on I gave this to the state government to use for free of cost. Going by the agreement, the government can use this as long as it wants. But if it stops using the logo, the ownership shall come back to me automatically,” the Chief Minister said while taking part in a debate on proposed Biswa Bangla university in Birbhum.
“Biswa Bangla logo is the outcome of my dreams and dreams are priceless…I will not spare those spreading canards on this. People will not forgive any attempt to malign Biswa Bangla,” Banerjee cautioned without naming Mukul Roy. Roy has alleged that Biswa Bangla logo is owned by Chief Ministers nephew Abhishek Banerjee.
The Chief Minister also said that the proposed Biswa Bangla university in Birbhum is not aimed at putting up a challenge to Rabindranath Tagore’s Visva-Bharati.
“Visva-Bharati is Bengal’s pride. Biswa Bangla university may not be able to attain that stature but my aspiration is to project Bengal to the world through it.” Opposition MLA Ashok Bhattacharya had yesterday alleged that the proposed university iss being planned to undermine Visva-Bharati.
