Kolkata, 26 December: TRINAMOOL supremo and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee flew off to Delhi this afternoon to take part in a meeting of Opposition parties convened by Congress on demonetisation issue.
“I am going to attend the meeting convened by Congress; let’s see what transpires,” she told reporters before checking into Kolkata airport. She landed in Delhi early in the evening, where she would be camping until 28 December noon.
The meeting convened by Congress is scheduled at the Constitution Club in New Delhi tomorrow and Congress president Sonia Gandhi, vice-president Rahul Gandhi would personally remain present.
Congress has invited as many as 16 Opposition parties to the meeting aimed at firming up strategy for nationwide united movement against demonetisation. But CPI-M general secretary Sitaram Yechuri told a news conference in Kolkata in the afternoon that no representative from the Left parties would attend the meet.
“The date for the meeting has been finalised without consulting other parties. In case of a united move, everyone’s opinion should have been asked for while finalising a date but here it did not happen. Hence, we would not attend the meeting; besides parties like RJD, BSP also have reservations,” Yechuri said.
