Kolkata: Trinamool supremo Mamata Banerjee has warned the youth wing of her party not to try surpassing the main party and rather work under its guidance.
Banerjee sounded the caution at the extended core committee meeting of the Trinamool held at Netaji Indoor Stadium in Kolkata today.
This comes two days since Cooch Behar Trinamool district president and minister Rabindranath Ghosh made a public outburst against youth Trinamool leader and Member of Parliament Partha Pratim Roy for allegedly trying to overshadow him.
Trinamool supremo’s message today assumes special significance as her nephew Abhishek Banerjee is the president of Trinamool Yuva ~ the youth wing of the party. Abhishek, however, was today away for a surgery in his eye in Hyderabad.
“There must not be any differences between Trinamool and Yuva Trinamool. Yuva will work under Trinamool and shall have to work to strengthen Trinamool. I will not tolerate if Yuva Trinamool tries to surpass Trinamool,” Banerjee said in her speech.
In view of some old Trinamool workers deserting the party after being denied tickets for the Panchayat polls last month, she asked the party leaders to try and win them back. “You will have to take the old workers along as they have given their blood and sweat when the party was weak.”
The Trinamool chief also took a dig at BJP state president Dilip Ghosh for his recent threat that Trinamool leaders involved in atrocities will either be put behind the bars or will be killed in encounter when the saffron party comes to power in Bengal.
“Leaders of some parties are speaking like militants. Sometimes they are threatening encounter, sometimes about lobbing bombs, and sometimes of firing bullets. I dare you to try doing this. We have seen your capabilities in the Panchayat polls itself. BJP is a militant party but we are not,” she said.
