Kolkata, 05 February: IN a chilling crime, a man has been stabbed to death in broad day on a busy road near Hind Cinema at Bowbazar area in central Kolkata today noon.
The deceased Buddhadeb Saha alias Babulal was stabbed repeatedly by Rameswar Sahani in front of the Calcutta Girls School on Biplabi Anukul Chandra Street located on the backside of Hind Cinema.
The incident took place around 12 noon when classes for the junior section at the school just got over and the road was crowded with the students and their parents.
People were taken aback as Rameswar pounced upon Buddhadeb with a dagger and stabbed him repeatedly. Buddhadeb collapsed on the road bleeding profusely from the abdomen and other parts of his body.
Local shopkeepers instantly dialled the police control room and the gathering of a large crowd made it impossible for the assailant to flee.
A team from the nearby Bowbazar police station arrived within minutes. They took Rameswar into custody and rushed a critically injured Buddhadeb to the Calcutta Medical College and Hospital, where he was declared brought dead by the doctors.
Police said that deceased Buddhadeb was a resident of Moth Lane near Dharmatala and was engaged in small time real estate promoting business. In the course of this, he had reportedly borrowed some money from Rameswar and was not repaying the debt despite repeated prod.
Apparently angry over this, Rameswar has stabbed Buddhadeb to death. Given that he was carrying the dagger, police suspect that the crime was pre-planned and did not happen at the hit of the moment.
Deceased Buddhadeb’s family members said that like other days he had had his meal in the morning and went out on his motorbike around 11 am.
