Kolkata: Faced with commuters’ ire due to frequent malfunctioning of the trains, Metro Railway has initiated a special check-up of its rakes.
According to a Metro Railway spokesperson, the special maintenance drive has been started at Metro’s Noapara car-shed from Thursday and will continue till all the malfunctioning rakes are attended to.
Metro Railway general manager Ajay Vijayvargiya himself has directed the engineers to see why problems like malfunctioning of AC, train doors, brakes are recurring affecting Metro schedule and causing inconveniences to the commuters.
The drive is in addition to the period overhaul that a Metro rake goes after every three months run. It will cover both the AC and non-AC rakes that malfunctioned in one way or the other while on the run.
The move comes two days since passengers resorted to an agitation at Sobhabazar-Sutanuti Metro station on 4 June after the air-conditioner in a coach of New Garia-bound train stopped working.
