Kolkata: To enable passengers to their part in keeping the stations clean, Metro Railway has introduced bottle crushers at six of its stations.
The six stations are Chandni Chowk, Esplanade, Park Street, Maidan, Rabindra Sadan, and Kalighat. These stations are among the busiest in terms of passengers boarding and alighting from trains.
The bottle crushers are meant for plastic bottles only that are mostly in use for potable drinking water by people on the go. The crushers have been installed at a prominent place by the platforms so that commuters can easily spot and use them, a Metro spokesperson said.
During the upcoming Durga Puja when Metro sees a huge rush of passengers, the bottle crushers are likely to be of much use.
