Kolkata: A middle-aged woman has been murdered at Beleghata in east Kolkata by a plumber who had repaired a water pipe in her house recently.
The incident has taken place at Beleghata’s Gagan Sarkar Road in the wee hours today. The woman has been identified as Aabha Saha (56), a homemaker.
Around 3 this morning, the plumber Bapi Das (45) had sneaked into the single-storey house of Saha, apparently with the intention to burgle gold jewelries. But the homemaker woke up from sleep due to sound of Das’ entry and she started screaming out for help.
This made Das gag her mouth with his plams. In the process he ended up suffocating Saha to death.
The neighbours woke up by hearing the screams and commotion. They rushed out and managed to nab Das as he was fleeing. The neighbours then informed police. Cops have sent the woman’s dead body for post-mortem and have arrested the plumber.
Police sources said that plumber Das had repaired a water pipe in the deceased woman’s house a few days ago. It was during this that he might have had a glimpse of her jewelleries.
In an unrelated incident, the dead body of an unidentified young girl has been found today morning at Kolkata bordering Bantala Leather Complex in South 24-Parganas district.
Police suspect that the 19 years old was probably murdered elsewhere and the body dumped at the Leather Complex, which is a facility spread over acres of land and has lots of open space.
