Kolkata: TWO armed miscreants forayed into the house of an elderly man in the heart of Kolkata and attacked him with a pistol and chopper all because he had opposed drinking alcohol in front of his residence.

The incident took place on Biresh Guha Street under Karaya police station on Monday night. The injured elderly, Iqbal Singh, is now hospitalised with grievous injuries.

Singh, 61, lives with his three grown-up daughters at Biresh Guha Street. As alleged, two notorious miscreants of the locality, Imtiaz and Tausif, of late started drinking alcohol in front Singh’s house every evening.

With the marriage of one his daughters scheduled for later next month, Singh last night asked the two not to drink in front of his residence and go somewhere else. He also threated reporting the police.

Peeved at this, Imtiaz and Tausif broke into Singh’s house in the dead of night. One of them hit him in the head with the butt of a pistol, the other then stabbed him repeatedly with a chopper.

Seeing this, Singh’s daughters started crying out aloud for help. This made neighbours rush in but by then the two miscreants fled from the spot. An injured Singh was taken to hospital by his daughters and neighbours.

The daughters subsequently lodged an FIR against Imtiaz and Tausif at Karaya police station. Police are yet to nab the two.
