The brutal killing took place yesterday barely 10 metres away from Hazinagar police outpost. The killers have been identified as Dhananjay Singh and Manjit Singh, while the victim’s name is Vijay Singh.
Dhananjay, who is a settler on a piece of land owned by Vijay, has been locked in a dispute with Vijay as he wanted to evict him. The dispute is several years old and was even dragged to court but to no avail.
Yesterday afternoon, Vijay was driving home his Madhyamik examinee son Shubham on a scooter after his Hindi exam. They were near home and were driving past Hazinagar police outpost that Dhananjay Singh aide Manjit attacked Vijay with a rod.
Dhananjay hit Vijay in the head repeatedly, making him stumble on the road with his scooter. Even after this, they kept on hitting him with the rod. Vijay’s son Subham narrowly escaped the attack.
Carrying out the fatal attack, Dhananjay and Manjit fled. A critically injured Vijay was rushed to Naihati State General Hospital. Doctors referred him to Kalyani Hospital in neighbouring Nadia, where Vijay succumbed in the night.
His son has given a statement to police narrating the incident, which has also been captured in a CCTV camera installed nearby. The two accused have gone into hiding. Meanwhile, braving his father’s shocking death, Shubham appeared for his English exam today.
