Hooghly: A jawan of the Mizoram police and a sub-inspector of the Bengal police have died after falling ill while performing the Lok Sabha polls duty.

This has happened at Jangipara in Hooghly district. The deceased have been identified as Laldintunga (32) and Anup Roy (43).

Laldintunga was in a team of Mizoram armed police troop that arrived at Jangipara for election duty on 1 May. They were lodging in the state-government run Furfura High Madrassa.

Laldintunga suddenly fell ill on 2 May and was admitted to Jangipara Rural Hospital. There he breathed his last today 4 May.

Roy, on the other hand, was a resident of Hooghly itself and was posted at Chanditala police station as a sub-inspector since January this year.

Roy was taken ill after accompanying a Central force team on an area domination exercise yesterday 3 May and was admitted to Chanditala Rural Hospital.

Doctors subsequently referred him to a private nursing home at Dankuni but he died in the transit.

He is survived by wife and two sons. Roy’s elder brother says that he had no history of any serious ailment and was healthy.
