Kolkata: Mob justice mindset, which has already claimed several lives in the hinterlands, is now here in Kolkata!

Two vagabond men were today tied to a road median and subjected to public bashing in a Kolkata locality on the suspicion of them being thieves. Hadn’t the police reached in time, the mob would have probably lynched the two.

The incident took place today morning at Dakshindari off VIP Road in north Kolkata that comes in the Assembly constituency of state fire services minister Sujit Bose.

Some people living in the vicinity parks their cars at night under the VIP Road-end of the Ultanga Flyover. They include owners who drive their cars for commercial purpose.

According to them, thieves have been doing away with batteries and fuel from the cars for some time now. They had reported the matter to local police but to no avail.

Thus, early this morning, when the people of Dakshindari spotted two vagabond men loitering at the place, they nabbed them at once.

The two middle-aged vagabonds were then tied to a nearby road median and were subjected to a free for all slaps, punches and, kicks accusing them of being involved in the theft of batteries and fuel.

The mob was even threatening to burn the two vagabonds alive that a police team from Lake Town police station reached the spot and rescued the two.

They have been admitted to RG Kar Medical College and Hospital with injuries all over their body.
