Barasat: A young father and his six-month-old daughter have been run over by a speeding train in North 24-Parganas today afternoon.
Neighbours suspect that the father deliberately jumped in front of the speeding train so to commit suicide. The deceased have been identified as Biswarup Dey (41) and his baby girl Dhritismita.
Dey was a resident of Khardah and used to live with wife and the baby daughter. A private tutor by profession, Dey was struggling hard to maintain his family but neighbours said despite this, there was no discord with his wife.
Today afternoon, Dey went out on a stroll clasping baby daughter to his chest. A little later, he was run over by the Sealdah-Lalgola Fast Passenger that does not halt at Khardah.
Dey’s body was recovered a little away from Khardah railway station but the baby could not be traced initially. Government Railway Police soon spread a word about the mishap and the missing baby at all railway stations.
This led to the recovery of the baby’s dead body from Ranaghat railway station in Nadia, which is some 70-km from Khardah. The baby had got stuck in the cowcatcher of the train’s engine.
GRP has sent the dead bodies of the father-daughter for post-mortem. Police said that only after a detailed investigation it can be known whether Dey actually committed suicide by jumping with daughter in front of the train or it was an accident.
