Kolkata, 9 October: MORE and more flights are getting delayed, diverted, or cancelled as Kolkata continues to grapple with incessant rain since the wee hours.

According to Kolkata airport director Atul Dixit, the total number flights cancelled until 4 pm has gone up from four to 13. These include cancellation of departure flights and those that were scheduled to arrive in Kolkata.

The departure flights that have been cancelled include ~ IndiGo Hyderabad, IndiGo Delhi, IndiGo Mumbai, Jet Etihad Bengaluru, Air India Guwahati, Air India Agartala, SpiceJet Silchar, and Jet Airways Imphal.

Likewise, five flights that were to travel to Kolkata have been cancelled. They are ~ Air India from Guwahati and Agartala, Jet Airways from Imphal, IndiGo from Vizag, and SpiceJet from Silchar.

A SpiceJet flight from Patna to Kolkata had to be diverted to Bagdogra due to heavy rain in Kolkata. The flight landed at Bagdogra at 10.40 am. Bagdogra Airport director Rakesh Sahay said that as a ripple effect of Kolkata weather, departures and arrivals at his airport have been affected.

Several flights that were to land in Kolkata have been diverted to other airports such as Ranchi, Varanasi, Bagdogra, Agartala, and Bhubaneswar.

The crew of upcoming Bengali movie ‘Asche Abar Sabar,’ who were travelling from Lucknow to Kolkata by Jet Airways flight 9W-0772, remained stranded at Varanasi airport for about eight hours.

“The flight took off from Lucknow at 7.15 a.m. and was supposed to land in Kolkata at 8.30 a.m. But it was diverted to Varanasi due to the rain and remained stranded there until around 3 pm. The flight managed to land in Kolkata at 3.40 pm.,” said actor and radio presenter Mir, who was accompanied by director Arindam Sil and others.
