Kalyani: The mortal remains of two workers from Bengal killed by the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) extremists at Mosul in Iraq have reached their home district, Nadia, tonight.

Stuffed in coffins, the mortal remains of Khokon Sikdar of Tehatta and Samar Tikadar of Chapra were flown into Kolkata airport this evening by a special Indian Air Force aircraft.

State minister Purnendu Basu and IAF officers offered their floral tributes to the two departed souls at the airport tarmac itself. After this, the coffins were taken to Kalyani’s JNM Hospital by road.

The coffins will remain at the hospital tonight and will be handed over to the bereaved families tomorrow. Sikdar and Tikadar were among 39 Indian workers who were abducted by the ISIS in Iraq in 2014. Their death was confirmed by the Indian government this 20 March.
