Barasat: A middle-aged homemaker and her married daughter have died of electrocution at Barasat in North 24-Parganas district. The husband of the daughter is hospitalised with injuries.
The incident took place around noon today at Barasat’s Ward 19. The deceased mother has been identified as Keya Lodh (42) and her deceased daughter as Payal Mullick (22). The injured husband of Payal is Sunny Mullick (30).
Sunny, a photographer by profession, married Payal about three years ago. Since the marriage, he has been lodging at his in-law’s residence along with his wife.
Today around noon Payal apparently suffered an electrocution in the washroom. Her mother Keya rushed in to save her but got electrocuted instead. Sunny, who was at home at the time, jumped onto saving the two but failed. He too suffered injuries in the process.
The three were rescued by neighbours and rushed to Barasat District Hospital. Keya and Payal were declared brought dead by the doctors while Sunny was admitted for treatment.
A cousin brother of Payal said that feud between Sunny and Payal was almost a routine and the relatives had sorted out a dispute barely a fortnight ago. “We are suspicious whether the deaths today are the outcome of an accident or it was the result of a commotion in the family,” he said.
Police, in the meanwhile, have registered an FIR for unnatural deaths and have referred the dead bodies of the mother-daughter duo for post-mortem. Police plan to interrogate Sunny once his condition stabilises.
