Kolkata: A disc jockey (DJ) associated with an upscale nightclub of Kolkata and two of his associates have been arrested for smuggling in narcotics for the upcoming Xmas and New Year raves.
As much as 2.45 kgs of charas have been found on them, which is worth about Rs 15-lakh. The arrested DJ has been identified as Nikhil and his two associates are Henry Lawrence Manna and Robert Dixon.
Henry and Robert are residents of Beniapukur in the city; Nikhil lives at Ballygunge. Nikhil is a famed DJ at the Myx Nightclub on Park Street, which opened about four years ago and has since been a favourite with the city’s affluent class.
It was sleuths of the state CID who, acting on a tip-off, nabbed Henry and Robert last night from near Sealdah railway station. On frisking them, two kgs of charas were found on them. CID subsequently handed them to the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB).
On being questioned, the duo told NCB officers that they had smuggled in the narcotics from Kullu in Himachal Pradesh and the consignment was to be delivered to DJ Nikhil. This made the officers raid Nikhil’s residence at Ballygunge leading to the recovery of another 450-gram of charas. He was arrested at once.
Police and NCB officers suspect that Nikhil ordered the consignment for the Xmas and New Year raves at Myx and other nightclubs in the city scheduled for later this month. His clients are believed to include youngsters from Kolkata’s affluent families and those associated with the film industry.
The narcotics recovery and arrests have brought the Myx Nightclub under the scanner.
