Siliguri, 02 May: THE Adivasi couple at Naxalbari, in whose house BJP president Amit Shah had a highly publicised lunch on 25 April, is likely to join the Trinamool.
The speculation got strengthened after the couple ~ Raju Mahali and Geeta Mahali ~ went to an undisclosed place today morning by putting their house at Naxalbari’s Kotia Jote under lock and key. This is apparently to ensure that BJP does not persuade them back into its fold.
Alleging that Trinamool has “abducted” them, BJP workers demonstrated in front of Naxalbari police station in the evening. They alleged that Bengal’s ruling party was hoodwinking the couple to sever all ties with the saffron brigade.
Sources said that the Mahalis, who have become known faces in all across Bengal and beyond since Amit Shah lunched at their hutment, would join the Trinamool at a ceremony organised at Naxalbari on Wednesday. The event is scheduled to be attended by state tourism minister Gautam Deb.
On record, Trinamool leaders are however not willing to specifically name the Mahali couple. “A large number of people will be joining Trinamool tomorrow in presence of the minister. At this point, let it suffice to say that there will be some surprises at the event,” Naxalbari Trinamool leader Tapan Kundu said this evening.
