Diamond Harbour: POLICE in South 24-Parganas district have exhumed the skeleton of a teenage girl who was murdered after alleged rape by her employer about a year and seven months ago. The accused is a leader of the SUCI.

The move comes after the Alipore court in Kolkata, which is conducting a trial into the girl’s death, expressed dissatisfaction with the post-mortem report submitted by police and ordered that the body should be exhumed for further tests.

The 16-year-old girl used to work as a domestic help in the house of SUCI leader Noorjaman Mandal at Circus Maath area under Joynagar police station jurisdiction. In March 2016, Mandal told her family that she has committed suicide on being caught red-handed in stealing. [READ: Suci leader in dock on charges of rape and murder of teenage maid]

But her family contested this and lodged a complaint with police alleging that she was raped and strangled to death by Mandal. Police subsequently got a post-mortem done on the dead boy and the mortal remains were then buried near her house at Joynagar.

However, while trying Mandal and an aide of him for the alleged rape and murder, the Alipore court recently found discrepancies in the post-mortem report. The judge then ordered that the body be exhumed and forensic test be conducted to ascertain the exact cause of her death.
