Kolkata, 24 April: AGITATION by parents against fee hike has made the authorities suspend classes for two weeks at a high school at Rajarhat New Town off Kolkata.
A notice issued by Bodhicariya Senior Secondary School located at Maitree Nagar at Rajarhat New Town states that the classes shall remain suspended until 6 May due to “unavoidable circumstances”. The classes will resume on 8 May as 7 May is Sunday.
The move comes following an agitation by parents of the students today morning against “exorbitant” hike in session fee and admission fee at the private ownership school.
A similar agitation had taken place last month and the same was called off after a local Trinamool councillor made the school management temporarily rollback the fee hike.
The suspension of classes at the New Town school comes on day when parents of another school at Park Street resorted to an agitation against “unreasonable” hike in tuition fee.
Holding placards in hand, the agitators stopped the car of Jewish Girls’ School’s secretary in from of the school today morning. The agitation continued for a while bringing traffic to a standstill. The parents alleged that the school has hiked the annual tuition fee to Rs 11,000 from what was Rs 6,000 in the last session.
The agitation was called off after police rushed in and the school management announced a meeting with the aggrieved parents on 28 April.
