Kolkata, 13 December: DESPITE one after another seasonal fairs reporting loss of business due to demonetisation, Kolkata International Book Fair will kick off as per its usual schedule in the fourth week of January.

The Publishers & Booksellers Guild, the organiser of the annual gala, however, has urged prospective visitors to make as much cashless transactions possible while buying books.

“We are earnestly requesting people to go for cashless transactions and to enable this, we are arranging for as many mobile ATMs possible at the book stalls. The number of temporary ATM counters on Milan Mela premises will also be higher than the previous years,” Guild general secretary Tridib Chatterjee told a news conference today.

This year, Kolkata Book Fair will be stepping into the 41st year and central American republic, Costa Rica, has been selected as the focus country.

“The fair will be underway from 25 January to 5 February from 12 noon to 08 pm daily. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will inaugurate the fair,” Chatterjee said. Like previous years, the entry is free.
