Barasat: A middle-aged couple has been arrested in North 24-Parganas district for the murder of a neighbour youth.
This has happened at Jojra village at Madhyamgram. The victim is a 26-year-old youth named Abu Hussain. Hussain was untraceable from 5 November and this made his family to lodge a missing diary at Madhyamgram police station.
Today morning, people at Jojra village spotted a male dead body without head and legs floating in a canal at Jojra village. On receiving the information, Hussain’s family members rushed to the spot and identified the dead body by taking a cue from the lungi that was draped around.
Soon after this, Hussain’s father, Akbar Ali, lodged an FIR against neighbour Zakir Ali and his wife Arzina Bibi accusing them of the murder. People of the village suggested that Arzina had developed an extra-marital affair with Hussain and on discovering this, her husband has murdered the youth.
Acting on the tip-off, police picked the couple and started interrogating them. The couple eventually confessed to having killed Hussain and then dumping the body in the canal. With inputs from them, police found the severed head and legs of the youth from a slaughterhouse in the village.
Police have sent the dead body to Barasat District Hospital for post-mortem. Although the couple has been arrested on the basis of the confession, investigators said that they were yet to find the murder weapon.
