Cooch Behar: A primary school teacher at Cooch Behar in north Bengal has been sentenced to life imprisonment for killing his wife.
The additional district and session judge of Cooch Behar Nandan Deb Burman today handed out the life sentence to Arjun Dey Sarkar.
Sarkar, a resident of Dodearpar village off Cooch Behar town had married Adrita Ghosh of Dinhata in 2004. Soon after the marriage, Sarkar allegedly used to torture Ghosh demanding dowry.
In 2016, Ghosh was found hanging at her husband’s house. He parents subsequently lodged an FIR at Cooch Behar Kotwali police station alleging that Ghosh has been murdered by her husband and then hanged to make it appear a suicide.
Police arrested Sarkar and started an investigation. Finally 12-years since the death of the woman, her husband has been sent to life imprisonment for killing her. The judge has also fined him Rs 1-lakh. He shall have to spend an additional year in jail if he fails to pay the fine.
