Siliguri, 19 December: TENSION prevails at Panjipara in North Dinajpur over an anti-Trinamool agitation in neighbouring Kishanganj in Bihar and retaliatory actions on the Bengal side.
The situation is such that a luxury bus coming from Bihar to Siliguri has been set on fire at Panjipara after anti-Mamata Banerjee remarks were found scribbled all over it. The bus was plying through National Highway 31 when some Trinamool supporters set it on fire this afternoon.
Trinamool supporters have also put up a blockade on the National Highway 31 at Panjipara and have vowed to stop all vehicles coming from Bihar.
This after vehicles coming from Bihar since morning were being scribbled with anti-Mamata Banerjee remarks at Kishanganj by a group of Bijrang Dal activists who were protesting Bengal government’s alleged failure to curb attack on Hindus at Dhulagarh in Howrah.
‘Mamata chor hein (Mamata is a thief),’ ‘Hinduo par hamla bandh karo (stop attack on Hindus),’ ‘Mamata Begum murdabad (Mamata Begum go down), ’ Jay Sree Ram etc were scribbled on the vehicles.
Not only this, North Dinajpur Zila Parishad sabhadhipat Alema Noorie’s driver was smeared with black colour in the face when he went to Kishanganj to buy medicine for her post-noon in the official vehicle.
State panchayat minister Ghulam Rabanni said that the administration had a tip off that vehicles from Bengal would be targeted today when they enter Kishanganj and hence the administration had diverted all Siliguri-bound vehicles through an alternate route bypassing Bihar.
Following this, the Bjarang Dal activists changed strategy and began scribbling anti-Mamata remarks on vehicles originating from Bihar and heading to Siliguri or other parts of north Bengal.
With Trinamool workers blocking NH 31 at Panjipara, the situation is very tense there and police have pressed in reinforcement to contain the situation. North Dinjapur police have also contacted their Kishanganj counterpart over the issue.
