Kolkata: After getting virtually fried by the scorching heat over the past few days, Kolkata and the adjoining districts witnessed a massive storm from this evening snapping power supply and affecting train services badly.
Power supply to Howrah railway station’s platform number 17-23 tripped following the snapping of the overhead electric wires. This severely affected the movement of trains to and from Howrah railway station. The restoration work is on till late into the night.
The storm was witnessed in phases from around 6.30 in the evening in Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, North 24-Parganas, South 24-Parganas, and Burdwan districts.This affected train services both in the Howrah and Sealdah divisions.
Power supply to different parts of the districts and the suburbs of Kolkata was affected.
On Sealdah-Budge Budge section the train services were suspended from around 8.40 pm following the snapping of the overhead wire near Santoshpur. Similarly, train movement between Lakshmikantapur and Namkhana stations in South 24-Parganas were suspended after branches of tree fell on the overhead wire.
On Sealdah-Canning section the trains are being operated only up to Sonarpur because of similar reason.
