Hooghly: A gang of armed miscreants has now looted around Rs 4-lakh in cash from a nationalised bank branch at Hooghly.
The robbery took place around 2 this afternoon at Andhra Bank’s branch at Pandua in Hooghly. The branch manager has told police that three masked youths forayed into his chamber and snatched the keys to the vault at gunpoint.
The gang members then took out Rs 4-lakh cash from the vault and hurried out from the branch. Next, they boarded two motorcycles on which they had arrived and sped away towards neighbouring East Burdwan district.
At the time of the robbery, three civic volunteers and some private guards were deployed at the bank but none of them apparently got a wind of this. They came to know of this only after the gang fled.
Cops from Pandua police station subsequently went to the bank after being alerted by the manager. Police are scanning the CCTV footage for a clue to the miscreants.
On 23 February, a gang of miscreants had robbed Rs 24-lakh from the Canara Bank branch at Raniganj in West Burdwan district. Police have not been able to arrest anyone for the robbery as yet. [Rs 24-lakh looted in broad day bank robbery in Burdwan]
