Kolkata: After Jadavpur, now Presidency University. The students of Presidency University have launched an agitation on the campus albeit not on the issue of admission modalities.
Students at Presidency University’s College Street campus have launched the agitation in protest against the five-fold hike in fee that is charged for appearing in the counselling for admission to undergraduate courses.
Until last year, the counselling fee was Rs 100. The same has now been increased to Rs 500. The students, who are already studying at Presidency University, believe that the steep hike will deter many poor but meritorious students from seeking admission.
Demanding that the counselling fee should be reduced to Rs 100 again, the students under the banner of SFI and Independent Consolidation held sit-in demonstration on the campus throughout the day today.
The agitating students have said that their protest will continue until and unless the varsity revokes the fee hike.
