Siliguri: A National Volunteer Force (NVF) personnel has died and five policemen are injured in a fatal road accident at Chopra in North Dinajpur district.
The accident took place at Tin Mile area on National Highway 31 at Chopra today dawn. The police team was returning to Chopra police station after a night patrol when their car rammed into a lorry that was moving ahead.
Hearing the loud crashing sound, people from the adjacent area rushed to the spot and found all the six men in uniform, including the driver, lying in a pool of blood in their car. The car’s frontal part had been smashed and so was the rear portion of the lorry.
They took out the policemen from the accident-hit car and informed Chopra police station. Cops arrived soon found the NVF personnel dead; the injured were rushed to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital in Siliguri.
The deceased NVF personnel has been identified as Taher Hussain. NVF is an unarmed force raised by the state government, primarily for civil defence purpose.
