Behrampore: A Trinamool worker has died and two others have suffered critical injuries in an accidental blast at Rejinagar in Murshidabad while they were manufacturing crude bombs.
Among the two injured is a Panchayat poll candidate of the Trinamool; the second one is a worker of the party. They have been brought to a Kolkata hospital in a critical condition.
The blast took place last night at Teghari Nazirpur village under Rejinagar police station jurisdiction. Jahiruddin Mollah, the Trinamool candidate for the Beldanga-II Panchayat samiti, and his party fellows Yaar Ali Sheikh and Iqbal Sheikh were allegedly manufacturing crude bombs in Jahiruddin’s house.
During this, a crude bomb accidentally went off. The blast blew off the roof and a wall of Jahiruddin’s house. Yaar Ali Sheikh died on the spot; Jahiruddin and Iqbal were critically injured.
Neighbours rescued the two and rushed to Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital at Behrampore. With their condition being critical, they were subsequently referred to Kolkata.
Meanwhile, the accomplices of the Trinamool candidate moved away the dead body of Yaar Ali Sheikh before a team from Rejinagar police station could reach the spot.
