Kolkata: Taxi operators in Kolkata has called for a strike against the continuous hike in fuel prices and demanding a revision of fare.
This apart, several transport operators’ bodies will hold a demonstration in front of Indian Oil regional office in Kolkata on Tuesday.
The strike will be observed on 18 June (Monday), Bengal Taxi Operators Co-ordination Committee and West Bengal Taxi Workers Federation announced today. The Bengal Taxi Association has extended support for the strike.
The day-long strike will coincide with the pan Indian strike called by truck operators against the hike in fuel over the past 15 days. A litre of diesel in Kolkata now stands at Rs 71.72 and petrol Rs 80.91.
The continuous hike in fuel prices has turned the transportation industry unviable, the organisations say. As regards, taxis in Kolkata, the fare has not been revised for the past over three years.
