Kolkata, 25 October: THREE table tennis players from Kolkata-headquartered South Eastern Railway and Metro Railway have won gold in the just concluded World Railways Table Tennis Championship 2016 held at Berlin in Germany.
The Championship, played from 17- 22 October, was participated by 19 teams in the men’s category and 12 teams in the women’s category from all over the world.
Indian Railways men’s team to the Championship was represented by Anirban Nandi of South Eastern Railway, E Prabakaran of Southern Railways, and Ravindra Kotiyan and Pankaj Vishwakarma of Western Railway.
Women’s team was represented by Anindita Chakraborty South Eastern Railway, Shreya Ghosh of Metro Railway and Takeme Sarkar of Northeast Frontier Railway.
In the individual event, Men’s Singles Title was bagged by Anirban Nandi; Women’s Singles Title was won by Anindita Chakraborty.
Agian, Anirban Nandi and E Prabakaran won Gold Medal in the Men’s Doubles; Anindita Chakraborty and Shreya Ghosh won Gold Medal in the Women’s Doubles. The Mixed Doubles Gold Medal was bagged by the pair of Anirban Nandi and Shreya Ghosh.
On their return to Kolkata, South Eastern Railway general manager AK Goel felicitated Anirban Nandi and Anindita Chakraborty at its headquarters at Garden Reach in the city today.
