Kolkata, 03 February: KOLKATA Police are close to solving the 16 January Palm Avenue triple murder case as the prime suspect, Neil Fonseca, has confessed to the crime.

Neil, admitted to a private hospital at Broad Street in south Kolkata, have told police that he killed his wife Jessica (42) and two 16-year old sons Darren and Joshua, after Jessica allegedly fought with him over his extra-marital relationship.

The 48-year old interior has been admitted to the hospital since 16 January morning with a deep cut injury in his throat. Police suspect, Neil had inflicted the injury on himself to mislead the investigators.

A Kolkata Police team spoke to him at the hospital twice last week. It was during those brief questioning that Neil confessed to the killing. This is in departure from his previous written statement that, Jessica had killed their two sons and then attacked him with a knife and he killed her in self-defence.

Kolkata Police’s joint commissioner (crime), Debasish Boral, said that from the very beginning, police were sure that Neil was the killer. With Neil now confessing to the crime, police will arrest him once he is released from the hospital, and will charge him for murder.

Police had on 16 January itself recovered the knife and a dumbbell from Neil’s 73/1C second floor rented apartment at Palm Avenue. Neil has told police that using the knife and the dumbbell he had first killed his wife and then the two sons.

Police believe that apart from the discord over extra-marital relationship, Neil’s huge debt had contributed to his committing the crime.

The body of Jessica, Darren and Joshua were recovered from the bedroom that they shared with Neil at the Palm Avenue apartment in the morning of 16 January.
