Barasat: Angry over the late running of trains and misleading announcement of train arrival, a section of the passengers today went berserk at Sodepur railway station in North 24-Parganas.
They vandalised ticket vending machines, ticket counters, and blocked the railway lines for nearly two hours since 9.53 am today. The agitation and blockade crippled train services on the Sealdah-Barrackpore section.
As a consequence to this, 15 pairs of EMU local trains were cancelled while 21 EMU local trains and 3 mail/express trains were stranded en route destinations for about 50 minutes each on an average. Normal train services resumed at 11.58 am after the blockade was lifted.
Eastern Railway authorities have maintained that trains were running late due to non-interlocking work at Halisahar station and this was notified in advance in newspapers on 29 March.
