Kolkata, 05 December: AN elderly patient has jumped to his death at the Central Medical Research Institute (CMRI) at Alipore in Kolkata. The incident took place this morning.
Rajendra Prasad Dhanuk (57), a resident of Garden Reach in Kolkata, was undergoing treatment at the private hospital for ailments of the lung. Employed with a nationalised bank branch at Garden Reach, he was admitted to the hospital about seven days ago.
Police and hospital sources said that Dhanuk jumped off the fourth floor of CMRI this morning and fell on the ground. Staff and patient parties heard a thud sound; they rushed towards the source and found Dhanuk lying on the ground. He was instantly taken to the emergency ward of the hospital but doctors could not save him.
There is no clarity yet as to how the patient managed to jump off the hospital building as nurses / ward boys remain on duty round the clock. There are also private security guards deployed on every floor of the multi-storied private hospital.
