Kolkata: The pay hike for para-teachers, announced by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee four months ago, will come into retrospective effect from 1 March 2018, state education minister Partha Chatterjee has said.
“As was announced by the Chief Minister at an event in Nazrul Mancha, the monthly salary of para-teachers in lower primary (class I-IV) will now be Rs 10,000 including provident fund contribution (by the government) from what was Rs 5,954. As regards upper primary (class V-VIII), the revised pay will be Rs 13,000 from what was Rs 8,186,” Chatterjee said during a conference of para-teachers at Netaji Indoor Stadium in the city today.
“Since the Chief Minister had made the announcement in March, the revised pay will come into effect from 1 March 2018,” he said.
The minister further said that until now against the recruitment of every 100 regular teachers, 10 per cent para-teachers used to be recruited by the government. Now on, the percentage will get increased to 30.
Besides this, the government has decided to accord the para-teachers facilities similar to regular teachers as regards maternity leave, access to the teachers’ common room, etc. “Upon retirement, para-teachers will now get Rs 1-lakh as one-time benefit,” he said.
