Kolkata, 12 October: LEGENDARY footballer Pele has said that he does not wish to be become the president of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA).

“(I have) No intention to contest for the post of (FIFA) president,” the three three-time World Cup Football winner told a Press meet in Kolkata on Monday afternoon on being asked whether he wish to become the FIFA president.

Pele also refused to answer queries as regards the crisis in FIFA following the resignation of Sepp Blatter as president over alleged irregularities.

Taking forward his yesterday’s remark that “Messi is very close (on par) to Maradona and Pele,” the 74-year football king today said: “In the last 10 years, Messi was (has been) the best.”

But in the same vein he added: It’s very difficult to make a comparison of players of different generations. (Christiano) Ronaldo plays forward and tries to score, while Messi plays with a different style. In my team I would love to have both.”

Pele also praised Neymar saying that he “has a good future.”

Expressing confidence even at this age, the legend said that he “would have been successful even now” if were a player of this generation “No doubt football today is more tough than before but when God gifts you to play football it’s the same in any generation,” Pele said.

On being asked about his opinion as regards the defeat of Brazil by Germany in the last World Cup Final, he said: “We don’t have time to prepare the team and the national team is not playing as team. Until the game is played together as a team, you cannot expect to get result.”

He named Didi (Waldyr Pereira), Vava (Edvaldo Jizidio Neto), Garrincha as some of the players for whom he has high regards.

Pele said his 1970 World Cup winning coach Mario Jorge Lobo Zagallo was the best coach he had played under. “Luck plays a very important factor on which team wins or which team losses. Only best coach and best team may not win if luck doesn’t support them.”

The Black Pearl took part in an interactive session at NSHM Knowledge Campus in Tollygunge later in the afternoon. He will visit Eden Gardens and attend a felicitation at Netaji Indoor Stadium today evening.
