Cooch Behar: North Bengal development minister Rabindranath Ghosh today bared the rift in Trinamool Cooch Behar unit and asked Trinamool to decide which side the party wants to stay.

Ghosh, known for his hot temper, made the outburst after he was heckled and booed down publicly by a group of youth Trinamool activists at Dewanhat in Cooch Behar. The minister alleges that the party’s Cooch Behar Lok Sabha MP Partha Pratim Roy was being this.

“I picked him from drain thinking that a young energetic man will strengthen the party. He doesn’t have the quality of even being a Gram Panchayat member but I made him win as an MP. But he showed his true colour within three months of being elected an MP, Ghosh told reporters in Cooch Behar today.

Going a step further, the minister said that Trinamool should decide which side wants to back.

“Let the party decide whether it wants to compromise with corruption but it is for sure that I will not walk alongside those bereft of ideology. The party is not my profession but my passion. It is not that I don’t have enough money to fend for myself,” the furious minister said without mincing words.

Neither MP Roy nor the Trinamool leadership in Kolkata has reacted to Ghosh’s outburst yet. It may be recalled that in the recently concluded Panchayat polls, those nominated on Trinamool tickets lost in several seats in Cooch Behar to youth Trinamool candidates who contested as Independents.

Ghosh not only has his rival in Roy but also in Siliguri Trinamool leader tourism minister Gautam Deb, and Dinhata MLA Udayan Guha, who had switched over from Forward Bloc to Trinamool in 2016.
