Siliguri: The pilot of a paraglider has died and a tourist has been injured while paragliding at Kalimpong in north Bengal today.
The mishap happened today noon when Purushottam Pimsena (22) took to the skies in a paraglider at Kalimpong’s Delo with a tourist named Gaurav Choudhury in the pillion.
After flying in the sky for a while, the paraglider suddenly got torn into two in mid-sky and started coming down rapidly. One part of the paraglider got stuck in a tree and the other fell on the roof of a house.
Both pilot Pimsena and tourist Choudhury suffered critical injuries. While Pimsena was declared dead at Kalimpong hospital, Choudhury is undergoing treatment.
Police said that deceased Pimsena was a resident of Pokhara in Nepal. Choudhury was part of a 20-member tourist group from Bihar.
In view of the mishap, police have asked all paragliding organisers in the Hills to suspend the service until further order.
