Kolkata, 11 January: MAMATA Banerjee today said that there has been a conspiracy to kill her by plotting an air accident and that her political rivals could do anything to silence her.

She did not name the rival in specific, but immediately before making the comment she was criticising the BJP led Central government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“There has been a conspiracy to kill me in an air accident but I survived. Subsequently, two pilots were suspended: ATC and airline are passing the blame on each other. Police are not getting any information as they probe the matter,” the Chief Minister said while addressing an anti-demonetisation agitation in front of RBI regional office in Kolkata this afternoon.

She was referring to a 01 December incident when the IndiGo flight that she was travelling in from Patna made an emergency landing at Kolkata airport after the pilot told the Air Traffic Control (ATC) that he was short on fuel.

Soon after this, Trinamool minister Firhad Hakim had alleged that it was a ploy to harm Mamata Banerjee; Trinamool MPs had also raised the matter in the Parliament the next day, compelling the civil aviation ministry to order a probe.

But this is the first time that Banerjee has herself alleged that it was an attempt on her life. The Bidhannagar Police under whose jurisdiction falls the Kolkata airport have been carrying out a separate probe into the matter.

Meanwhile, in her latest salvo against demonetisation, Banerjee today accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of marketing for “blacklisted” companies having Chinese link.

“The next day of demonetisation, jacket ads of Paytm appeared in newspapers with Prime Minister’s photo. The PM has become a salesman for the company, whose 40 per cent stake is owned by a blacklisted Chinese company. I am not saying something unfounded; let anyone enquire if USA did not blacklist Paytm,” Banerjee said.

Accusing the Modi government of waging a political vendetta against the Trinamool, she said that CBI was now the Conspiracy Bureau of Investigation and that PM Modi was its head.

“They think, Trinamool is an easy prey. But we fight with tigers; we won’t get rattled by rats. We are not scared of your fear-mongering Modi babu,” the Trinamool supremo said, adding that her transport minister Suvendu Adhikari was threatened by a BJP leader over the phone asking to meet him.

“Suvendu has lodged an FIR on this at Tamluk police station. They are threatening our leaders. What an audacity,” she said urging her party men not to lose hope. “Don’t get scared. Let us face it united, face this bravely, don’t bow down. We shall come out victors.”
