Kolkata: ADANI Group, which is known for proximity to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has pledged an investment of Rs 750-crore in Bengal over the next five years.
Pranav Adani, an executive director of Adani Group, today made the announcement at the concluding session of Bengal Global Business Summit hosted by the Bengal government.
Adani Group already has an edible oil refinery at Haldia in East Midnapore district and the company will pump the additional Rs 750-crore to double its capacity by 2023. The refinery’ existing production capacity is 1,600 ton per day.
Apart from doubling the production, the packaging capacity at the unit will also be expanded from 1,200 ton to 1,800 ton per day, the junior Adani said. At present, the company has employed around 4,500 people in Bengal. Once the proposed investment is implemented, more people will be employed here.
Adani also expressed the company’s willingness to collaborate with the Trinamool government in Bengal in managing the two deep sea ports at Tajpur in East Midnapore and Sagar in South 24-Parganas that the state government is planning.
