Siliguri: Police have impounded the residence of fugitive Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) leader Bimal Gurung.
A team of the Darjeeling district police led by superintendent of police Akhilesh Chaturvedi today went to Patleybas, located on the outskirts of Darjeeling town, and pasted a confiscation notice. They also sealed the house. There was nobody in the bi-storied building then.
Chaturvedi told reporters later that they had approached the court for permission to confiscate the house of Gurung and the court gave the permission recently. This is because Gurung has been absconding for nearly a year now and has not responded to the police notice for questioning.
Gurung, who was the president of GJM, is wanted for the serious of violence, arson, bomb blasts, and the murder of police sub-inspector Amitava Malik in the course of the agitation against the state government last year.
Police had earlier issued a lookout circular for Gurung and alerted all the ports, railway stations, airports, and transit points. Despite this, he remains out of reach of the police.
