Kolkata, 19 September: KOLKATA Police have arrested a five member gang including a woman, and claim that these people were behind the series of burglaries that Kolkata has witnessed in the past one fortnight or so.

In a late night raid on Friday, the Kolkata Police’s detective department arrested one woman and four men from an apartment at Panchanna Gram off E M Bypass in south Kolkata. Of those arrested men, three are suspected to be Bangladeshis, and the woman is a crooner in a city singing bar.

A number of firearms and sharp weapons have been found on them that corroborate the descriptions given by the family members of houses that were burgled. Some cash and jewellery have also been found in the apartment.

The bar crooner woman along with a male member of the gang had taken the apartment on rent by posing as husband and wife. Neighbours, who were unaware of their profession, have told police that the apartment was regularly visited by several people even late into the night.

Police sources claimed that the gang has confessed to being involved in several incidents of burglary in various places in south Kolkata including Bansdroni, Behala East and Golf Green etc in the past one fortnight.

They will be produced before the Alipore court later today.
