Diamond Harbour: A sub-inspector of police has been hospitalised in South 24-Parganas district on being hit by a bullet allegedly fired by Trinamool backed miscreants.
The incident took place at Usthi today noon and the injured policeman, Rafikuzzaman is now undergoing treatment at the Diamond Harbour District Hospital. A colleague of him, Pijush Kanti Mondal, has also been hospitalised with injuries caused by brickbats.
Trouble broke out after BJP candidates set out in groups to file nomination papers for the coming Panchayat polls. They were stopped ahead of the Magrahat-I BDO office by a large gang of miscreants allegedly deployed by Trinamool.
Soon a clash broke out between the BJP team and the miscreant gang. Learning this, a team from Usthi police station rushed to the spot. Instead of backing out, the Trinamool-backed miscreants began hurling brickbats at the cops.
This made police to resort to a lathi-charge. Countering this, the miscreants started firing from improvised pistols. A bullet fired by them hit sub-inspector Rafikuzzaman in his right hand. He was at once rushed to the hospital by other policemen present.
In another incident related to the Panchayat polls, the daughter of BJP candidate from Bhangar, again in South 24-Parganas, was assaulted by alleged Trinamool backed miscreants near Baruipur SDO office. This happened when the young woman went to the SDO office accompanying her father who filed nomination for the elections today.
