Kolkata: The city police have vowed to implement the ban on the use of DJ sound systems and sound crackers during the Chhat Puja that begins on Tuesday.

Supratim Sarkar, the additional commissioner of Kolkata Police, today said that going by the ruling of the Supreme Court and the Pollution Control Board, police will take strict action against anyone found playing loud music on DJ system and bursting sound-crackers beyond the permissible decibel limit.

To keep an eye on Chhat revelers violating the ban, Kolkata Police will deploy some 2,000 personnel at 103 river/lake ghats in the city on Tuesday and Wednesday.

This apart, seven watch towers have been set up along the Hooghly river bank and in all 322 special police pickets will be posted in different parts of the city to maintain the crowd of Chhat devotees.

Police had been partially successful in implementing the ban on loud music and bursting of sound-crackers during the recently concluded Durga Puja, Kali Puja, and Deepavali.
