Kolkata: IN view of the attacks on opposition party candidates during the filing of nominations at BDO offices almost every district, the State Election Commission today made an exception and said that the nominations can be filed in the SDO offices as well.

The move comes a day after the state election commissioner Amarendra Kumar Singha called on Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi after being summoned by Raj Bhavan. Tripathi had received complaints from both BJP and Congress that their candidates were not being allowed to file nomination papers.

Trinamool cadres and miscreants are taking positions in the BDO offices itself and launching an attack on opposition party candidates they moment they are stepping in to file nomination papers. An attack like this has been recorded on camera at Arambagh in Hooghly.

In view of this, issuing a notification today, the poll panel said that the nominations can be filed in SDO offices as well. Nomination filing for the Panchayat polls started on 2 April and scheduled to continue until 9 April.
