Kolkata: The State Election Commission (SEC) has ordered a recounting of votes for a Zila Parishad seat in Purulia following a complaint of anomaly by the defeated Trinamool candidate.

The re-counting will be conducted on Sunday (20 May) for Purulia Zila Parishad seat No 38 that falls under Raghunathpur-I block.

Following the counting of votes on 17 May, BJP candidate Ganesh Kumar Singh was declared the winner over Trinamool candidate Anathbandhu Majhi. Soon after this, the defeated Trinamool candidate lodged a complaint with the district election authorities alleging cheating during the counting.

Acting on the complaint, SEC today ordered that the ballots for the ZP seat be counted afresh tomorrow and only after this the election certificate be issued to whosoever turns out the winner. The fresh round of counting will start at 8 am tomorrow.
