Kolkata: Presidency University has published the merit lists for admission to undergraduate and postgraduate courses following a sit-in agitation on the campus by the students for the last three days.
The varsity today uploaded the merit lists for all the 16 courses in the undergraduate level and 15 courses in postgraduate courses on its official website. This after the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board, which conducted the entrance tests, said that the university was free to publicise the merit lists.
The university, however, hasn’t yet rolled back the hike in counselling fee, which is the second demand of the students holding demonstrations under the banner of SFI and the Independent Consolidation. Till last year, the fee was Rs 100. This time, the same has been increased by five times to Rs 500.
The agitating students opine that the five-fold hike in counselling fee will serve as a deterrent for many aspiring students who come from financially unsound background. The university, on the other hand, has maintained that the fee hike has been done by the Joint Board and it has no say in this.
The agitators have clarified that their demonstration will continue until and unless the fee hike is rolled back. A section of the students is on the campus continuing with the sit-in demonstration.
